I didn’t understand seersucker until I moved to the South. I grew up on the east coast, where people just layered black over more black throughout the year. Once I moved here, I had to seriously change my wardrobe. Hardly anyone wears black – certainly not all black. For most of the year, many women embrace colorful dresses that can be layered with sweaters or worn alone when the worst of the heat hits. For the hottest part of the summer, there’s seersucker.
Sadly, seersucker is a fabric that seems to have fallen out of fashion. This is a shame, as it has so much going for it. It’s light, comes in tons of colors and doesn’t really wrinkle. It’s also washable, which is perfect for those times of year when you start sweating as soon as you walk out of your front door. Several vintage inspired companies make seersucker collections, but you can also find some amazing vintage seersucker pieces if you look hard online. Today I’ll be showing you one of each, along with some others that you can pick up yourself!

1940’s Vintage Seersucker Dress:
This dress is grey seersucker instead of the traditional blue and white version. It’s amazingly high quality – it drapes and has a sheen almost like taffeta in person. I originally thought the color might make it harder to style, but now I’ve discovered that it goes with pretty much everything.

Vintage Repro: Lena Dress in Seersucker by Trashy Diva:
This dress is the traditional blue and white seersucker and a more 50’s style. It’s great for super hot days with the open back and the halter. While I feel like red is the natural pairing with blue and white seersucker, I also love it with varying shades of pinks for a really floral fresh outfit. These shoes are by Chelsea Crew and are sold out, but I’ve linked to ones in a similar color. If you have pale skin with pink undertones, they’ll work as a nude shoe better than most beige shoes do.
