One of my favorite parts of growing up on the east coast was when fall hit. Now that I’ve settled in the south, seasons don’t really change the same way. Leaves stay the same color, the heat lingers and everyone wears their summer dresses year round.

I frequently find myself craving those bold fall/winter clothing colors, as well as comforting items like knit sets. So, while it’s still in the 90’s (yuck), I’ve found myself reaching for clothing that feels like autumn without the added warmth. I swapped this dress with a vintage loving friend, who has an amazing closet and is close to my size. It worked out well: she ended up with a great novelty print dress and I ended up with this beauty – which actually fit my arms unlike the one I traded to her!

One of the things I really appreciate about vintage dresses is the craftsmanship, as well as the truly unique design details that they come with. You can see that here, with these amazing carved spiderweb buttons on the dress. They’re such a fun little detail that you would never see on a modern piece.

My new favorite places for hair flowers is Chatterblossom, which uses vintage millinery to create amazing new pieces. This flower is just the kind of thing I go for: versatile, elegant and not overwhelmingly huge.

These black and green t-straps were a pair that I bought on a whim several years ago at DSW on clearance, but I wear them all the time. They go with a surprising amount of things in my wardrobe and are really comfortable. As someone who finds almost all shoes brands uncomfortable, this is a big deal.

While it’s not fall yet, I’m definitely looking forward to switching over to a slightly different color palette! Do you like to switch in autumn clothing mode early? Are you sad that summer is over?

Have a great Labor Day, everyone!

Love the print on this dress! I picked up some fabric recently that looks very similiar to this but with a different color scheme! This post makes me super excited to create something with this fabric. I love the buttons on this dress and the button loops! So cute! And OMG those shoes! Gorgeous! Another awesome outfit Holly! <3
