Hair Flower: Chatterblossom
I reviewed the latest limited edition dress from Trashy Diva last week, so check it out if you haven’t seen it. This week, I’m going to cover my other purchase from the same trip to the boutique – the Lupe Dress in Forget Me Not Floral. I find that some Trashy Diva prints don’t pop when the print is shown online, but do wonders on an actual person. This is a great example of the print that is stunning and truly unique under real light.

It’s hard to find florals that are full of fall colors rather than spring or summer ones, so I was thrilled when Trashy Diva released another floral collection. I’m still in love with the Jade Watercolor and Steel Magnolias florals from this past year, so I was hoping another one would pop up soon. An unexpected bonus is that this floral print works with so many accent colors. I’ve been wearing it with red since that’s what I had on hand, but I have light blue shoes on the way and am on the hunt for a light blue hair flower to match. You could also obviously pair the print with plain black to keep it simple.

While there are multiple great 1930’s and 1940’s style dress bodies in this collection (yay!) I went with the Lupe. I already own the dress in the older Turquoise Birds print. Some of the older versions of this ran really small, so I was happy to see that this one ran true to size. I’m wearing a 16 that I basically have to butter myself into in the picture above, but I could easily zip up the 14 in the Forget Me Not floral. The new print is made from a soft crepe de chine, which in my experience means it will give a bit with wear. The zipper has also been redone a bit to make it easier to step into, whereas I have to carefully pull the older version on over my head (not so much fun when you’ve carefully brushed out your pincurls).

This dress has several super flattering features if you’re curvy and/or busty. The looped neckline comes down just far enough to be flattering, but not so far down that you have awkward cleavage popping out the top. The fitted waistband and puff sleeves (I have never met a puff sleeve I didn’t love!) give it that 1940’s flair, while the skirt is a flattering yet manageable cut. This does run shorter than some of the previous incarnations: I’m 5’4″ and this dress hits a tiny bit above my knees.
I’m lucky enough to live close enough to the Trashy Diva boutique to pop in on a whim, so I almost always check in the day I hear a new collection has been released and pick up anything that I want as soon as it hits the store floors. If you’re new to Trashy Diva, be aware that sizes 12 and up can sell very quickly, sometimes within a day or two of the collection hitting the website. If you see something you love, don’t dawdle. While the Lupe dress is already gone in many sizes, there are lots of other larger size options left in this print.
I now own two versions of this dress and would honestly buy any others that get released at this point. These dresses are so easy to wear in any weather and to just throw on when you need to leave the house in a hurry and still look put together. I reach for them over many others in my collection and lately have been wearing both the floral and turquoise bird versions at least once a week.
Do you love or hate floral prints? Do you like this fall themed version?
