Fall is officially here, even though it’s still hot here in New Orleans. I didn’t grow up here, so I still have all of those cold weather memories of fall from my childhood: apple cider, pumpkins, colorful leaves and cold temperatures. Now that I’m an adult and live here, I’ve found my own parts of autumn in the South to love. In New Orleans, it’s the season of riding streetcars in perfect temperatures, having romantic meals outside in courtyards or on restaurant patios and exploring parks and outdoor festivals. I have to admit I still find myself craving apple cider as soon as the season arrives though.
I’ve been watching a lot of I Love Lucy lately, so this dress mostly reminds me of something Lucy would secretly buy a hide from Ricky for months before wearing it out! I love plaids in pretty much all forms, but especially in offbeat color combinations. When I found this deadstock dress several months ago, I had to grab it and stash it away for the winter months. The fabric is light and airy, but the deep pinks and purples are helping me indulge my childhood autumn feelings.
I realize that for me, autumn also means a change in red lipstick shades (perhaps only fellow red lipstick addicts can relate to this). As soon as I saw it was officially autumn, I found myself reaching for my Red Velvet lipstick rather than my lighter Tango Red. After months in my “summer red” lipstick, I felt a bit like Vampira today. I also saw that Tango Red isn’t listed on the Besame site anymore, which means I have to start hunting for a new lighter red lipstick since I’m almost out.
Do you love plaid for autumn? What are you wearing as the weather cools down?
